A quaint brood
Getting to know this hatch of quail chicks has been a blast! I ended up with extra, cause it's always hard to know for sure how well it's gonna go the first time you pick up birds off Craigslist. A week into it now and they're all doing great. They have so many unique color variations, and I can't wait to see what they each grow into.
Of all the birds in this hatch I only had one little one come out with a crooked leg. Once they all were settled in the brooders it was time to find the world’s tiniest hair tie for an extra small hobble. Right away my little hobble chick hopped right back into the feeding frenzy and got harder to find each time I peeked in from there. After a day or two the legs had sorted themselves out quite well, and we are now a hobble free brood!
The quail run is up in the greenhouse now, and ready for the chicks to grow up the rest of the way. I am so looking forward to quail eggs in the spring, and hope to get to a point of having some to offer around town as soon as possible!
